Our nearest village is the delightful Mayfield. This medieval village steeped in history is just three miles from your holiday home. It has several good cafés, pubs, restaurants and shops. There is a nice walk directly from the Oast to Mayfield. Heathfield is also about three miles from the farm and has a full range of amenities.
If you enjoy walking then this is an ideal location- to help you get around OS maps are provided. We are situated close to the South Down Way, Ashdown Forest and local footpaths, one of which runs directly past Allen’s Oast. The footpaths are well maintained and clearly marked.
We are well placed to visit some of the best National Trust properties www.nationaltrust.org.uk. There are several privately owned gardens as well including Pashley Manor Gardens www.pashleymanorgardens.co.uk, Merriment Gardens www.merriments.co.uk, and other individual gardens open to the public throughout the year www.rhs.org.uk.
Allen’s Farm is within easy reach of London via Crowborough or Tunbridge Wells train station.
If you enjoy trains why not treat the grandparents to a trip down memory lane on a steam train (the children will love it too) – The local tracks include; The Lavender Line, The Bluebell Railway and The Spa Valley.
Nearby there are places to go horse riding, golfing, fishing, tennis and more. To discover what’s on in East Sussex visit the top attractions section on East Sussex county council website. This will give you a taste of some of the things on offer www.eastsussex.gov.uk. We are close to the border of Kent and easily accessible to many of the attractions this county has to offer www.visitkent.co.uk
From the beginning of September we have the local bonfire societies culminating on November 5th at Lewes. Mayfield Bonfire Night is well worth putting in the diary, with the torchlight procession and each society in their “stripes” taking you back to 1550 and the Sussex Martyrs and the start of this tradition.
If you have a special occasion why not visit www.elmgreen.co.uk and contact Sarah who can create a tailor-made menu leaving you time to celebrate. Advance Bookings only.
Family days out are wonderful, but Allen’s Farm Oast also offers beautiful and peaceful surroundings so you can relax and unwind without leaving the front door. Enjoy a barbeque in the garden or go for a gentle stroll around the farm savouring the countryside and tranquillity that can be found here.
